So, as I asked for it
... This is me - Gamer, Techie, Geek from Romania - ROPname aka Octavian
Due to being quite a nostalgic person... seems I went a bit overboard remembering stuff so... looong post
FunFacts: have a phlegmatic temperament, Christian by belief, have a smaller brother, a beautiful wife and a wondrous 2.9y Junior
, played 12 years of professional WaterPolo, love Basketball in-spite of my height, love mountains and my best was when I reached the highest spot in Romania (Moldoveanu Peak, 2.544m :O ), have 9 years in Universities but never finished xD.
So, I am a gamer from the 90s - started my gaming experience with ATARI 2600 console, but this was short-lived when I played so much that the electric transformer plug actually melted!!! xD ... was so sad, but it my first lesson in restraint
Then, I had some contact with Terminator console games (Mario, Ninja turtles, etc) at my friends house and with some PC games at my mothers workplace (Supaplex, Dyna Blaster, Prince of Persia, Jill of the Jungle).
Was so passionate with these that my mother actually borrowed a laptop from work in a vacation and let me played as much as I want... was the first time I actually finished a game - The Lost Vikings, best first game to finish ever, thanks Blizzard (aka Silicon & Synapse back then).
Then, some time later in life we got the first PC (me and by 1 Bro), donated by my "rich" (by our romanian standards) uncle from Austria... was a:
Intel Pentium-S 100 Mhz / 8 MB RAM / 300 MB HDD
Floppy drive / Sound Blaster card
14inch monitor / Win95 OS
Oh the nostalgia... and yes I one nostalgic guy.
From this time, I know I played strictly on PC and so many thanks go to my uncle which many times upgrade our PC, as we could never afford something like that.
I remember my games like Abe's Oddysee, Future Cop: LAPD, Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Commandos, Turok: the dinosaur hunter, Gruntz, StarTopia, Grim Fandango, The Broken Sword, so many experiences...
I remember starting my first collection of a Gaming Magazine, which I only stopped like 2y ago, when it went bankrupt ... LEVEL most popular gaming magazine in Romania... still have them... like 180 of them B-) !
I remember the most influential games I ever played:
*Fallout 1&2, which I played to bits, continously for about 1 and a half years
*TES 3: Morrowind, which left me dumbfounded with the graphics and possibilities, added 1 full year into it, until I lost my save file due to a computer virus... was so sad and I have not been able to start it again since
*The Longest Journey, one of the first and best Point&Click adventures, which made me fell in love with gaming Storylines
*Icewind Dale, my first contact with D&D and this is the reason I love R.A.Salvatores books so much today
*KOTOR, even if I saw Star Wars as a kid so many times... I only became a fan of this universe with the help of this game!
*World of Warcraft, over 10years went into this game... raiding, looting, farming, pvping, crafting, chating... so many memories, so funny memories, so many friends met, lost, guilds, disbands... I could not keep it up due to life responsibilities.
*so many more
I can only give a taste of my experiences, but keeping this up, through school, high-school, universities, jobs... I reached this spot of being 30 years old.
Well... I really do not feel it, but I guess a middle age crisis hit me xD ... as, through some awesome circumstances, one of the biggest things happened for me - I started a my Youtube channel... wanted this for years, but never did when I had the time, but did it now... when I have so little time :O ... Father, husband, full time job...
But seems, that when something really is your passion, you find the time. Even if it costs you sleepless nights, and drunk days cause of it .
So yea, my channel -
https://www.youtube.com/c/ROPname - is my discovered passion of creating Tech/Geeky vids and sharing my Gaming experience .
I'm still learning the ropes, doing it with subpar gear, but I am doing it all out of passion and doing the best that I can.
It all started with my refresh PC Build - Slash - on which I just wanted to do a few Build Log vids, as it was my first system after 6+ years (technically my second build).
This coincided with a few things and, through all and all, after getting the first vids done, I found out that I really liked to make Youtube content and is went hand-in-hand with my passion and my love of sharing.
So I now continue, fitting Youtube in my daily live/busy schedule.
For the future, the most thing I look forward to, is Gaming with my son.
As for a wish for the future, beyond the implicit health & good will for all, I wish I can develop more on my career and/or youtube and by able to sustain my family, without my lovely wife also having a full time job.
If you read this all, haha, call me impressed! Thank you and nice to meet you! Please feel free to also share your story.
And if you will, check my channel out... who knows, you might like it
.
Be Well and Play On!
